Ye Olde Watercolor Man

I wanted to design a layout for http://www.joshbeswick.com/ because it has been ugly and empty for a whole year.  Ive kind of liked this certain style recently.. thought watercolor or gouache would go well with it.. and instead of pulling out some gouache, I decided to try out some of the Corel painter 11 digital watercolor brushes.  Then I completely got distracted and painted a self portrait.  And then the self portrait turned into someone else.  And then I started turning layers off and saw how awesome some of them looked separated.  Heres every layer and every combination of layer. :p

End of the Year

It's the end of the year.. and i haven't posted much on here lately.  I got a job, bought a Canon T2i in the middle of the year and edited quite a few videos.. learned a bit of after effects, filmmaking, and dslr photography.  Got a new Wacom tablet.  Made a Halloween Stand-in thing for kids.  Still, I'm left with the feeling that I wasted a majority of my year.

The past couple months I've been trying harder.  Renewed my JoshBeswick.com domain.

Now I dump the art from this year.. and I wait for the new year to come, when my new years resolution will be to practice every single day so I waste no time and see progress at the end of the year.

Blocking in buildings from google maps!

Im still wanting to make a 2D game where you're a detective.  Liked a photo from flickr..http://www.flickr.com/photos/jraptor/3144520138/lightbox/ and googled it's location.   Used google maps as a reference.

Also the start (maybe finish) of a gouache painting:

Concept for one of those stand-in things for a church Harvest party.
I don't think it's exciting enough for kids.. but the adults will sure like it.

And an animation test.  Plan to do more to this:

Cats.

So, someone asked me to paint their cat.

It didn't occur to me how having three paintings of cats would make me feel like less of a man, but it certainly did occur to me when I was surrounded by them. lol

But, I still enjoyed painting these.  These are just basic drafts I guess.  Trying to figure out what to do with it.  Might try to do the every hair on the dog technique for one..

Here is the original reference taken from facebook:

Here is my photoshopped version:

Here are my paintings so far.  Just dropped some acrylic paint on the canvases and tried to get an interesting composition.  No where near done.
