End of the Year

It's the end of the year.. and i haven't posted much on here lately.  I got a job, bought a Canon T2i in the middle of the year and edited quite a few videos.. learned a bit of after effects, filmmaking, and dslr photography.  Got a new Wacom tablet.  Made a Halloween Stand-in thing for kids.  Still, I'm left with the feeling that I wasted a majority of my year.

The past couple months I've been trying harder.  Renewed my JoshBeswick.com domain.

Now I dump the art from this year.. and I wait for the new year to come, when my new years resolution will be to practice every single day so I waste no time and see progress at the end of the year.

Blocking in buildings from google maps!

Im still wanting to make a 2D game where you're a detective.  Liked a photo from flickr..http://www.flickr.com/photos/jraptor/3144520138/lightbox/ and googled it's location.   Used google maps as a reference.

Also the start (maybe finish) of a gouache painting:

Concept for one of those stand-in things for a church Harvest party.
I don't think it's exciting enough for kids.. but the adults will sure like it.

And an animation test.  Plan to do more to this:

Cats.

So, someone asked me to paint their cat.

It didn't occur to me how having three paintings of cats would make me feel like less of a man, but it certainly did occur to me when I was surrounded by them. lol

But, I still enjoyed painting these.  These are just basic drafts I guess.  Trying to figure out what to do with it.  Might try to do the every hair on the dog technique for one..

Here is the original reference taken from facebook:

Here is my photoshopped version:

Here are my paintings so far.  Just dropped some acrylic paint on the canvases and tried to get an interesting composition.  No where near done.

Some superheroes.

I found this old notebook from elementary school full of comics I drew.  Decided to reimagine the characters really fast while messing with these acrylic paints I never use.  Overall I feel like it went well, but the longer I look at it, the more it seems mediocre to me.  No references.. which im amazed. lol

I've also been using a lot of my time to try out film making.  Nothing really noteworthy at the moment, but Ive got some generic clips up with rotoscoping tests and whatnot.  Hoping to find some exercises or contests somewhere that'll give me an idea of which direction to go in with it.

First:  Just some simple rotoscoping.

Second:  Horrible planning. :p

Third:  Horrible planning again. lol

Fourth:  Slightly better planning, and a better result.. just wish I had acted out the punch correctly.  Also, timing was off so I had to freeze a frame to have them match up.

I've also been wanting to paint every other day and post it on youtube.

Going to post a new painting video today, or tomorrow.

Feel free to critique, help me out, or insult me any time. ;)

Ah, improvement!

After talking to the guy that this picture is based off of today.. I decided to paint him again.  5 minutes later, I could already see my improvement.  About 20 minutes later I had this:

And this is a painting of another friend.  He's in the army, so I painted him in the desert pointing at a helicopter.  It's not finished.. and it needs lots of work!
